For oxide/slag removal from Cobalt Chrome

CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) is an acidic bath used for cleaning and deoxidizing Cobalt/Chromium alloys to render them suitable for use in medical or aerospace applications. CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) removes weld or laser scale leaves a brilliant specular finish, free of etching, hydrogen embrittlement, or halide-induced stress cracking. CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) will attack Co/Cr very slowly, and in the process actually gives a polishing action.

PRE-TREAT:
CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) can be preceded by an alkaline cleaner, ideally MicroClean Ti™ (RDZ-1849), followed by a rinse.

MAKE-UP:
CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) is used as supplied at 180+° F (82° C) for 10 to 60 minutes (typically), but may be used longer, if necessary, as material loss is negligible. IMPORTANT: DO NOT allow bath temperature to fall below 170°F (76° C) . Results when bath falls below this temperature will be much less desirable.

OPERATION:
CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) is used until it is exhausted and then discarded. It Is important to add (deionized) water back to the bath as it evaporates, as the bath slows as water is depleted.

EQUIPMENT:
Very ruggedly constructed polypropylene tanks, reinforced for high-temperature use, are required. Teflon or PVDF may be used, but these are usually too costly. Teflon steam coils are the best method of heating a large bath. Quartz electrical heaters may also be used. However, some form of mild agitation to keep the solution moving over heaters is recommended. This prevents localized overheating and minimizes decomposition.

SAFETY:

Caution should be exercised in handling CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881). The CoCr Cleaner™ system is highly acidic and will cause permanent eye damage if contact is made and may cause skin lesions if not washed off promptly. Accordingly, it is important to wear complete eye protection and clothing that is resistant to dilute acids when working with CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) or the additives. When the CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) bath is in operation, it gives off very small levels of various oxides of nitrogen and other acidic gases. Consult Material Safety Data Sheet for further information.

DISPOSAL:
CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) is strongly acidic: used solutions will contain dissolved Cobalt and chrome metals that will precipitate when neutralized to pH 9.0+. Dispose of in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations. Contact your RD Chemical representative for further information.

PACKAGING:

CoCr Cleaner™ (RDZ-1881) is available in 1 X 4 liters bottles, 20 and 200 liter drums
