MicroClean™ Ti  RDZ-1849

RD Chemical Logo

Scale and Oxide remover for Titanium/Nitinol

Nitinol and Titanium is often extruded, drawn, or burned in the formation process, which creates organo-metallic compounds or oxides. These compounds are essentially impossible to dissolve without etching the metal, and therefore must be destroyed to be removed. MicroClean™ Ti (RDZ-1849) destroys these compounds by removing the metal component, and does not attack the metal. This process may take some significant time and/or temperature. When cleaning is completed, the work should be rinsed rapidly, and moved to the next step quickly, before oxide formation begins. MicroClean™ Ti (RDZ-1849) may also be used on other metals, such as Cobalt/ Chromium.

MAKE-UP:
Use as received, do not dilute. Use as hot as convenient, up to the boiling point. Cleaning speed doubles for every 20O F of temperature increase.

OPERATION:
Make up evaporation losses with water, preferably deionized. Cover tank to minimize contact with air. Agitation helps, but do not use air bubbling.

EQUIPMENT:
Any equipment that can handle the use temperature and chemistry is acceptable. Stainless steel, or Polypropylene is recommended.

SAFETY:

Use extreme caution, contains Caustic Alkali. Splash goggles or full face shield is mandatory. Rubber gloves, and any other protection required to keep from any contact with skin or eyes. Consult Material Safety Data Sheet for further information.

DISPOSAL:
May pick up Nickel or other heavy metals, which must be removed before disposal. Dispose of in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations. Contact your RD Chemical representative for further information.

PACKAGING:

4 liter bottles, 20 liter pails, and 200 liter drums.

Ti Pickling Solution RDZ-1776

RD Chemical Logo

Clean/Deoxidize Titanium and Alloys of Titanium

Ti Pickling Solution (RDZ-1776) cleans and deoxidizes even heat treated Titanium and its alloys, rapidly and completely. Ti Pickling Solution (RDZ-1776) may be used simply diluted and heated, or up to 10% Hydrogen Peroxide may be added to accelerate the process dramatically.

Ti Pickling Solution (RDZ-1776) has an extended life when simply diluted, and when stored in plastic containers, will last for many applications, exact life is a function of how much oxide is on the metal.

When mixed with Hydrogen Peroxide, the cleaning process is speeded dramatically, but the life is also shortened dramatically, and it will certainly not last over night, and may not last that long, depending on the oxide, and the alloy being cleaned.

MAKE-UP:
Use at 50%. May be used at room temperature, or heated to 50° C (120° F). Higher temperatures result in faster cleaning. Hydrogen Peroxide may be added, use up to 10% of 30% Active Hydrogen Peroxide.

OPERATION:
Use at up to 50° C, higher temperatures produce faster cleaning. Cleaning times will vary with oxide thickness, and alloy composition.

EQUIPMENT:
Store only in plastic, glass and metal will be (slowly) attacked by Ti Pickling Solution (RDZ-1776). Glass or metal may be used for short term cleaning/heating. For small quantities it is best to put into plastic jar, with lid, heat (carefully) in microwave.

SAFETY:

Ti Pickling Solution contains Fluoroboric Acid, which is poisonous and corrosive, do not allow to contact skin or eyes. Consult Material Safety Data Sheet for further information.

DISPOSAL:
May pick up heavy metals during use, which need removal before dumping. Dispose of in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations. Contact your RD Chemical representative for further information.

PACKAGING:

One liter bottles, 4 liter bottles, and 20 liter pails.

ElectroPolish Ti2 RDZ-1676

RD Chemical Logo

Electropolish for Stents

ElectroPolish Ti2 (RDZ-1676) will polish Titanium and Titanium alloys to a gleaming, specular, smooth surface, in minimum time, and with minimal metal loss. ElectroPolish Ti2 (RDZ-1676) polishes more smoothly, and with less metal loss than other conventional electropolish. For best results, precede ElectroPolish Ti2 (RDZ-1676) with MicroClean Ti™ (RDZ-1849) followed by a water rinse, then an Isopropyl Alcohol rinse, then into ElectroPolish Ti2 (RDZ-1676).

MAKE-UP:
Use as received, do not allow to be contaminated with water. Use at room temperature.

OPERATION:
Very high voltage may be required to get any polishing to occur, depending on placement of cathode. Voltages over 30 volts may be needed. Solution agitation will lower voltage requirements. Current density is not fully understood at this time, but extremely high current density (300+ ASF) has produced excellent results. Cover bath when not in use to minimize water pickup.

EQUIPMENT:
ElectroPolish Ti2 (RDZ-1676) is combustible, and under heavy use, could warm to its flash point. Use caution, keep the rectifier away from bath fumes. Keep bath under 90° F. Heavy use may require cooling to keep bath temperature under control.

SAFETY:

ElectroPolish Ti2 (RDZ-1676) contains a strong acid, and can burn exposed skin. Workers should be protected from exposure with Neoprene rubber clothing, and full-face shield, or splash goggles. Consult Material Safety Data Sheet for further information.

DISPOSAL:
Used ElectroPolish Ti2 (RDZ-1676) may contain heavy metals that which need to be removed before disposal. If no heavy metals are involved, simple dilution and neutralization is usually enough for most sanitary districts. Dispose of in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations. Contact your RD Chemical representative for further information.

PACKAGING:

4 liter bottles, 20 liter, 200 liter drums.
